Evening Eating Habits
I have been reading some mintel reports, one of which is called "Evening Eating Habits - UK - September 2003". It will be interesting to see how our survey data relates to mintel's data. Here's a couple of snippets from the mintel report:
- Takeaways and home delivered meals represent an important part of the evening eating out culture. Over half of all consumers will opt for meals of this kind purely when they cannot be bothered to cook or there is nothing to eat in the house. However, convenience is not the only factor compelling their evening use, as they are increasingly becoming an integral part of other social occasions.
- The growth of in-home leisure has helped to facilitate the popularity of takeaway and home-delivered food in particular pizza. Domino's Pizza has developed its business through interactive television and the Internet making it easier to combine ordering a pizza and home entertainment systems. Young
pre-/no family consumers are especially likely to choose takeaways or home delivered food for this reason.
Those consumers who order home delivered food in the evening when they are late home from work for example tend to choose mostly fast or other ethnic foods eg kebabs. The next most popular choices are pizza, Chinese or Indian food as shown in Figure 13.
